The Setesdal Valley is often called the Silversmith Valley, and Rysstad is central for the region’s production of silver jewellery. The first silversmith came to the area more than a hundred years ago, and our workshop is currently operated by a third-generation silversmith, Trygve Rysstad, who is the manager of the resort. He is a master in filigree, and crafts the traditional and intricately beautiful silver jewellery that decorates Norwegian national costumes. Most of the silver crafted in the Silversmith Workshop is made for the costumes in the districts of Telemark, Agder and Setesdal. The greater part of this silver is currently made to order, but there is always a selection of jewellery available to visitors in our shop, Sylvbui.
We also make silver for less formal wear, and in Sylvbui you will find this along with souvenirs, gifts, and home accessories from leading Norwegian manufacturers. Please do not hesitate to ask for a tour of the Silversmith Workshop to see the old handicraft demonstrated.
